All kinds of wonderful
Well, there is no clear winner to the Radiohead Remix contest.
But the fan favorite is Jame Houston.
Video editing, visual direction, concept and execution all pure genius.

Here were the highlights.
Prime rib hash and bottomless mimosas at Circa.
Ms. Pac-man, buckets of beers, and some darn good Absolut Pepper Bloody Marys at the Bus Stop Bar.
And the piece de resistance . . . roast crab at Thanh Long!

Here is a great little video that shows you early signs of some of today's dances.
Its Al Minns and Leon James doing the Charleston dance at the Savoy Ballroom in New York circa 1930s.

Everyone wins!

Recently, I have been making an effort to not buy any more clothes, shoes, etc. Like most people I have a closet full of stuff. And of that I may wear 25% on a regular basis. So I planned not make any more new purchases until I donated what I already have and did a thorough inventory of needs versus luxury.
But there are always exceptions to the rule! My good friend Lenny, a designer for Nokia, introduced me to Toms Shoes. So this will be my next purchase!
Please take the time to view the video and visit the TOMS Shoes website. I'm sure you will agree that it is a great product coupled with a great cause.

Do yourself a favor and watch this one all the way through. The song takes awhile to build but when it gets into its groove its worth it. Overall a great video concept highlighted by the moves of Massive Monkeys.

Maybe next year Coachella
Unfortunately I did not make it out to the desert for Coachella this year.
I heard Prince just plain killed it and did something like 2 encores. The man is a musical genius, skilled at many instruments. I saw him perform awhile back at Staples in LA and he is an amazing live performer. And how could you forget his electric performance of Purple Rain during the Super Bowl 2007. Safe to say one of the best halftime performances ever.
Prince - Creep(Live @ Coachella 2008)
I realize there were many great performances this year but so far this is what I got. If you have other live performances from Coachella you think I should post then shoot me a message.
"Artists are the myth makers of our day" - Joseph Campbell
Hope everyone is having a good day. If you are not then here is something to cheer you up.
Last year, Britain's Got Talent introduced us to Paul Potts.
Well say hello to this year's diamond in the rough Andrew Johnston.

everyone loves a good quote
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful implanted in the human soul.” --Johann Wolfgang Goethe
a beautiful quote i came across on dwight's wonderful site.

beautiful in so many ways
this video was the first video from sigur ros back in 2000. the idea was simple. they would play their music, use iceland as their backdrop, and hired the perlan theater group, a group of actors with down syndrome from iceland. the actors were dressed like angels and allowed to just react to the music.
no expensive cars. no bling. no sex appeal. judge for yourself.
i cannot understand the lyrics as they are icelandic. perhaps you can. yet as it is, you cannot deny the range of emotions that stir inside you. all at once you want to cry, smile, laugh . . .you feel inspired, that everything will be okay, that beauty still exists in this world.
sigur ros recently releasesd a music dvd called heima. i highly recommend you buy it and get some good use out of your expensive flat screen tv's.

one pair trumps grammys full house
if you have watched the grammys the last couple of years then you have notice all the collaborations. it seems as if all the name are put into a hat then its by luck of the draw. how else can you explain all the random duos that we are forced to watch.
so here is a special treat to you to restore your faith in music.
i was fortunate enough to have seen the godfather of soul perform. rest in peace to both men who have passed on.

Can't help but be moved
Just saw Raul Midon perform at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco. That man is a BAMF! - a bad ass mother effer!
He was joined by the Slammin All Body Band from Oakland on the West Coast leg of his tour.
No instruments. No problem.
Simply amazing. Redefined what I knew as music.
Then Raul performed. To say he sounded good would be a grave understatement. So it sounded something like this . . .
Words cannot express and the CD cannot capture what it is that Raul does live. Do yourself a favor and go see this man live if it is in your town.
This Valentine's Day he will be at the Roxy in LA. I will give you your money back if he does not move you.
